Nas is clearly suffering from the John Travolta real good or real shit dichotomy. The GOOD thing is the song The Don and the accompanying video. A$AP Rocky and other New York newcomers take note, being cool is not shooting videos of naked models doing coke (I'm talking about this), being cool is about shooting videos of you eating at nice restaurants and shopping for pink fucking suits! Nas as been on some ridiculous shit lately - his flow in this song and his recent Nasty Nas, the way he swerves between the beats, is so good that you totally forget that he's rapping about vacuous shit. Vintage Nas. The SHIT thing he's done lately is his cameo in the below Nicki Minaj video. Not sure what he was smoking to think this was a good idea. In the video he plays Nicki Minaj's love interest and they pretty much tick the box of every cliche out - you have the shopping on Hollywood Boulevard montage, the car as a birthday present with the bow on it scene and the flipping a coin into the wishing well scene. They must have cut out the scene where he tickles her anus with a feather and feeds her grapes, cos you know that shit happend.
Sometimes I look out the window of my office and look at all the people out in the sunshine and think that there is more to life than sitting in an office. On the day of Coachella last week when I was sitting in my office, checking my Twitter feed, knowing that somewhere in the world there is a hologram Tupac spitting phat rhymes and swinging his thug hologram dick around, let me tell you this feeling of there being more to life was almost unbearable. I felt like grabbing the goldfish out of the tank and screaming Jerry Maguire style, 'WHICH ONE OF YOU CUNTS IS COMING WITH ME!?' ... and then leaving. But that's not what I did. Instead I looked at my Twitter feed as the pricks that were actually there posted about the hit after hit that Dr Dre and Snoop were playing. SOCIAL MEDIA IS MAKING US MISERABLE Y'ALL! DD

This is a mixtape called Studying For My PhD by Marques Toliver, a dude who I've been following since he played down the house at Splendour last year. In this mixtape he somehow manages to make a cohesive album statement despite using a ridiculously diverse range of samples - Nicki Minaj to Al Green to news reports from the time of the London riots. It's Avalanches-like in its eccentricity, but fuck he nails it. The mixtape is available here.
Jai Paul's new track, Jasmine, has been getting a fair bit of hype on Twitter and fuck it really is dope. I say this like I know who Jai Paul is but in truth I hadn't heard about him until this new track popped up. A quick Google search reveals that Jai Paul is a UK songwriter who's signed to XL and whose back catalogue consists of a whopping ONE SONG which was released nearly a year ago. This is kind of a relief to me as it means that I don't have a lengthy back catalogue of Jai Paul shit to add to my list of stuff to listen to. It's this same fear of being confronted with a fat back catalogue that stops me from starting The West Wing or, God forbid, Naruto as I know that if I start either I'll be kissing good-bye to the next few months. Every single friend of mine who has ever made the decision to start Naruto from the beginning has simply disappeared. You can file this under TRUE GHETTO STORY. For the record Jai Paul's other song is below. DD

I'm a big Action Bronson fan and his new mixtape which was released a few days ago, Blue Chips, doesn't disappoint. His style is distinctively New York - high on swagger, high on sexual innuendo, low on choruses.
I really fucking love this video. Oblivion by Grimes. Usually the indie kid goes to football game and hangs with jocks number would do my head in for being so pretentious but she manages to pull this off, partly I think because she's clearly enjoying herself and not there to make a statement about how much cooler and different she is. I gotta say that the last scene where she's in a room full of shirtless jocks reminds me of the Matthew Johns scandal. Rugby league, you really made it hard for jocks to gang bang without people drawing certain conclusions. DD

Climax
